Samsung Jet GTS 800 Smartphone Review

We Liked:
This iPhone look alike is just as sleek and slim as most hot selling smartphones that are on the market as of now. The touch screen and easy to use inter-face makes using the Samsung Jet just as good as the rest of the state of the art cell phones-only faster!

We Didn’t Like:
The Jet lacks the ability to be customized, which might make it seems less appealing in the world of customizing is everything to everyone. It also surprisingly does not have voice dialing or GPS direction software on it. It is also mostly sold in Asia, and if you want it in other countries, the price will rank high due to be rare else where.

Over all:
This phone is ideal for someone who wants a lower grade phone that is fancy and advance, but does not want a smartphone exactly, but who wants one that is a lot like smartphones. Also good for someone who needs a semi basic phone that has some fancy features, but not over the top. All in all, if you like the idea of a advance phone, but not a real fancy one that is slim and ultra portable-the Jet is for you then.

Review:
This year Samsung has been popping out touch screen and advanced phones all year long, and as we get closer to the upcoming holidays, they only seem to be hurrying up to release more and more! The latest one, the Samsung Jet Cell phone has not slowed down in there advances either. Samsung has poured a lot into the Jet and thus far it looks up to par with most phones in the same market.

The Jet is like a much upgraded version of Samsung Highlight which was released prior to the Jet. This multimedia phone has a few updates- for an example it has a updated TouchWiz, has a faster processor. It also can be synced with Microsoft Exchange server and supports Microsoft Power Point and Excel. The browser now allows user to zoom in with one touch, to get a better view of sites and web pages. Unlike the past browsers it has used.

While this phone supports the current 3G standard that is being used around the world, it will not work with most current North American 3g network providers-or if it does, with major issues and lacking some aspects of the 3g network. It is mostly sold in Asia, and that is were it will likely work best.

This GSM phone is also rather on the expensive side of that type of phone for today, with many online based stores selling them at $525.00. Which is the average going price for unlocked cell phones at current time of print. So it is rather high priced for a current GSM phone, but it likely ends up being imported from Asia.

Jet’s Design:
This super slim phone that is 4.28 inches tall, 2.11 inches wide and less than an inch thick-has a glossy finish on the “skin” of the phone. Despite it being so thin, it fits comfortable in your hand without feeling brittle as some might think it would feel. It has a 3.1 inch wide screen, which is small for most touch screen phones-but it isn’t too small that you would have a hard time using it. The resolution is 800×480, and supports 16 million colors(24-bit)-which allows it to produce a bright and colorful graphics & images. It also takes high quality pictures and uses a duel-LED flash to help take photos in darker areas. They also placed noticeable and handy icons for you access phone book, messages, keypad and main menu. Which is nice, but standard on most recent touch screen phones.

Though it is limited in being customized, you can pick and choose which widgets you want and do not want to see or use. So that allows you to have some control over what features you want and do not want. You can also add new widgets via downloads that Samsung provides. They also have a side button on the Jet for the Media Cube feature on it. You can pick which media feature you want to use via the cube. It is hand and neat, yet you do not have to use the feature if you do not want too.

With this latest version of TouchWiz, you may find yourself thinking it is a lot like Google’s Android phones. Due to how you browse sites and pages, however you will also remind you of Apple’s iPhone for the exact same reason.

They added two more features that may come as a surprise to you, as it has for many other One is a automatic muting by placing the phone facing down. That seems a bit of a pointless feature, but they have added it for whatever it is worth. The second one is speaker phone that can be automatically activated by placing phone face up on a flat surface. This might be a better feature and will likely end up being used much more than the first one.

The touch screen does require a slight firm touch to “click” on anything. They have a virtual QWERTY keypad and dial pad. It might be hard to “click” on what you want due to the size, however you could likely buy a stylus and use it that if you absolutely must. You also can use their writing pad, instead of the QWERTY. Though all keypads are virtual. As we said earlier, that that phone has buttons on the side, ie- end, talk and menu buttons along with the aforementioned Media Cube one that we talked about above.

Jet’s Features:
One nice thing the Jet has is a huge phone book, one that can hold up to 2,000 contacts(more if you use external memory cards). Each page or entry can hold: 6 phone numbers, 2 email addresses, 2 street addresses, 2 urls and related personal info. You can arrange for each group of contacts to have a ring tones and photos, so you know who is calling, ect.

The Jet also has the following calculator, alarm clock, a world clock, a timer, a currency and unit converter, calendar and much more-like most of today’s standard phones. However, it also has some less common features in it as well. For example, PC Syncing, USB mass storage, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. However one big shocker is that the Jet does not support Instant Messaging

The camera is a powerful 5 mega pixel uses 3 shooting modes and has wide settings for different sized frames. You can also adjust brightness, 4 white balance settings, 13 “scene” settings and 4x zoom. It has 3gb or memory and has a slot for an microSD card. You can edit, send, upload and save all on this phone. It also uses a anti-shake feature to help you keep the picture in focus. You can also use it to shoot video clips for up to 25 seconds.

The mp3 player on the Jet has more features than most stand alone mp3 players do. It supports visualizations and album art. You can also set the music to be in the background as you do other things on the phone. The music is stored on a memory card, and not on the internal memory. You can also pick up FM stations on it. The audio files that are supported are AAC, MP3, WAV, Real Audio and WMA.

The web browser is pretty much the same on it, as it is on the other Samsung phones that have come out this year. Though it does now offer one touch zooming in feature.

Jet does offer some game demos, however you have to buy the full games to beyond the demo versions.

Again, much like most of today’s advance phones-the Jet has applications that can be downloaded and used as well. Though they applications may be limited due to the limited areas the phone is sold and used,

Jet’s Performance:
The Jet is one of the faster phones out in the market. It uses a 800MHz processor, which is rare in cell phones. Most applications and ect load quickly, however the browser might load slowly due to WAP settings. Other wise, it is a nice fast little running cell phone. Though in North America it doesn’t fully run well on the 3g network, as shared earlier.

Sound quality is about the same on most today’s cell phones. Though using head phones might allow a better listening experience. Speakers can be loud, though sound quality will be even less.

Battery life is about average, if not a little bit above. Eight hours talk time and 17.5 days of standby is reportedly how long each charge will last for the battery. FCC says the Lithium ion produces 0.428 watts of radiation per kilogram.

Phone service providers include 3, T-Mobile, Vodafone(U.K), Orange, and O2. Or you can buy an unlocked version(more expensive than locked) to use with your choice of service.
