Samsung Comeback SGH – T559 – Pearl White Plum Smartphone Review

It Is Big, And It Rocks, It is the Samsung Comeback.
Are you looking for a multi-media cell phone with a built in camera, movie camera, web browser, music player, and a whole lot of extra features like video games and more? Samsung is back with a new addition: The Samsung Comeback. We tell you the the good and the bad in this totally brutal, yet honest multi-media cell phone review. If you want a boring, wimpy phone that looks pretty then Samsung Comeback might not be the phone for you.

The Samsung Comeback is a sturdy phone that may seem to be a bit to bulky for some users. There is the regular phone keypad as well as a QWERTY keyboard that is revealed when you flip up the colour 2.7 inch display. The Samsung Comeback has a camera, and a music player with wireless bluetooth stereo. Consider this phone for one of its most impressive features; The HTML browser that supports JavaScript and Flash Lite for streaming video off of the internet, or playing videos you have downloaded and saved on the phone.

Although the Samsung Comeback is on the big side compared to other models that are sleek and alot nicer to look at, it is still a lightweight phone. It only weighs 4.6 ounces, which is standard for weight. Unfortunately the Samsung Comeback’s large, chunky appearance contrasts with the far to small QWERTY keyboard that is rather cramped for space. In fact the Samsung Comeback would be an absolute stellar phone if they had only given it more room on the keyboard. Its hard not to bump the sides when typing. The keys are raised, which helps, but they are rather tiny, making the phone less than ideal for anyone with large fingers. Don’t get me wrong, the keyboard is not horrible, its just more suited for those with small fingers. Women likely won’t even notice the small keyboard size, but for all you big guys, don’t say we did not warn you.

The Samsung Comeback has two screens. The front screen seemed rather dark to us, but this never presented as a problem as the images were crisp and the text was bold, and easy to read. We turned up the brightness on the front screen and everything was still easy to view. The larger main screen has separate brightness setting than the front screen, which is handy. The rest of the colour settings are the same for both screens. We were very pleased with the main screens perfect graphics and colours. It is on this screen where you will find the shortcut icons for Myfaves, message, the web browser, applications, and a link to your account.

Directly beneath the front screen are the navigational keys which are raised for ease of use. There is a toggle, a camera key, a toggle, the back key, and of course the send and end/power key. You can use the toggle to go up and down to view logged calls and your personal contact list. Go left or right with the toggle and it goes to create a new text or make a new audio picture. Texting is relatively easy to do on the top of the phone but using the QWERTY keyboard makes it alot faster.

The QWERTY keyboard is very similar to the keypad on the top of the phone, with most of the exact same features. One bonus is the internet key that we were glad was included. This saves you the time of typing out www on every website you go to visit. Why didn’t somebody think of this sooner. Imagine all the time we could of all saved. Maybe they will get smart start to include this feature into our home computers?

The bottom of the phone is where you will find the lens for the camera and the external speaker. The side of the phone has the volume and charging jack on the left side. To add a microSD card you have to put it in behind the battery, another feature that is less than favorable.

The camera on the Samsung Comeback is 2.0 megapixels. For a camera phone the pictures were what you would expect, O.K. but not great. The colour was really good, but the images were not 100% crisp and clear. The phone also includes a camcorder with audio. The camcorder video was even less impressive than the digital camera, and that is not saying much. We found the video to be blurry, and due to the fact that it is a phone and not a camera you are going getting poor quality video. On the upside the Comeback offers all kinds of settings and editing features. There are four different resolutions you can take pictures in, five white balances, and three quality setting. The camera does have some other exciting extras that we found exciting. It is capable of taking panorama shots, making for some great scenery pictures. Our favorite feature was the smile shot. The camera can actually detect a smile, and then automatically snaps the pictures in time to capture it. Take a picture of our own smile using the self-timer feature.. You can also take pictures at night using the night mode. Add some extra information about the shot by adding a brief voice recording to your photos.

Samsung Comeback comes with some extras that gives a extra boost to its ratings. It has a build in GPS, and USB storage. A few video games are included like the demo versions of the need for speed, and monopoly. To get the full versions you would have to purchase the game. Then there are the usual features you would expect in today’s multi-media telephones. The basics of course include silent-vibrate mode and speaker phone. You can store a thousand contacts with a picture for each with your choice of 22 ring tones. All of your contacts can have four phone numbers, four emails, a Aim, Windows, and Yahoo instant message usernames. There is also room to add your contacts birthday, anniversary, address, website, and other miscellaneous notes. Caller groups can be added to your contacts for further organization. Like most phones you get everything else you would want like a calender, alarm-clock and also a stopwatch.

If you are a music fan like most of us, and don’t want to carry a mp3 player around, as well as your cellular phone then you will appreciate the built in music player on the Samsung Comeback. Its music player rocks. You can organize your music by artist, and album. Playlists can be created, and then changed as you see fit. Add a rating to your tracks on a scale of one to five stars. Any your songs have the option of being used as a ringtone or one of the various alarms on this phone. The Samsung Comeback supports nearly all of the different types of music formats that are out their besides regular old MP3. If you are such a rocker that the standard 75 Mega Bites of storage is not enough for your extensive music collection you can beef it up by adding a extra 16 Giga Bites with the use of the microSD card. For a true musical experience headphones are a absolute must. Trust us on this one. Our suggestion to you is that you might as well go out and purchase a pair right now. If you are seriously considering using the external speaker (and I can not imagine why you would) you will find that your music sounds like munchkins on helium, or alvin and the chipmunks. There is no bass whatsoever and even though the equalizer helps, it doesn’t really make it satisfactory. For a music speaker we give it 1 star out of five. For music this speaker is like one of the mini spare tires in the trunk of your car. It will get you where you need to if your really in a jam, but you will want to use the real thing when you finally get there.

As for the sound quality of the phone itself it is great. Voices can be heard as if they the caller was standing next to you. Between the quality and volume we were pleased with this phone. For the most part there were no problems in the sound quality department (as a phone not a music player). Occasionally there was static, but that is nothing new when it comes to cellular phones, it just comes with the territory, and we expect that. No surprises there. The speakerphone as well works like most speakerphones do; Somewhat muffled, and not perfect, but speaker phones never are, so once again we considered this to be entirely normal. The Samsung Comeback battery life gives you 5.5 hours talk time. Plenty of time, even for today’s teenage girls. The stand by time is twelve and a half days, so even if you are lost in the wilderness, the Samsung Comeback will likely last long enough for you to hike your within range of a cell phone tower and call for help. As for the speed of the Comesback’s internet we could not be happier. The speedy little browser had the web pages loading very fast, and the videos were streamed completely flawlessly. All things considered the Samsung Comeback is a decent phone with enough extra features that make it a worthwhile buy. We highly recommend it for all of your communication, and entertainment needs. Just be sure to buy a headphone set.

We give the Samsung Comeback a four and a half star rating out of five
